KAT HOLMES interviews APHRODITE

Hi I’m Kat Holmes and I’d like to thank Megan for having us here today. You might be wondering why I’m sitting here twiddling my thumbs right now. I’m waiting for Aphrodite, the star of my book Working Under Covers to arrive. Gods arrive whenever they arrive.
In the meantime, here's the book's blurb:

Due to the economy, the Gods of Olympus are now forced to work among mortals. Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty decides to open her own Internet dating service in Los Angeles. Taking on the name Ariel Schell to hide her true identity, she opens Venus Connections.
Jordan Cade is a retired cop turned PI. But when several women go missing, his former boss drags him back for one last assignment. The only thing the women have in common is a dating service.

All Aphrodite wants is to earn a living. All Jordan wants is to find the missing women. But Fate has other plans and a little under covers work may be needed.

Hums a bit

Lights flash and the seated across from the author is Aphrodite in all her glory. She may be late but she does know how to make an entrance.

KH: Hi Aphrodite, thanks for coming.

A: Oh anytime. You are one of my favorite mortals after all since you told my autobiography. I have one question for you first though. Why is it pitched as fiction?

KH: Um, well, um…that is to say most people wouldn’t believe these were real events and I felt it too important to get your story out there.

A: I guess that makes as much sense as anything else you mortals do.

KH: Yes well, moving on. Your story is the first true accounting disguised as fiction of the gods coming down to work. Why are you gods, rich beyond measure, suddenly getting jobs?

A: <snorts> We USED to be rich until those CEO’s in the banks decided to get greedy. Once the banks got in trouble and the government had to bail em all out, people started losing their jobs as the economy nosedived. Now people barely have enough money for food and shelter. They sure as heck don’t have enough to continue giving us tributes.

KH: Are you saying that the gods are having money woes?

A: Big time. It’s a disgrace. So Daddy dearest, Zeus informed us we’d all have to go out and earn a living.

KH: I see. There’s a rumor going around that he’s letting all of you work to support him while he lounges around eating popcorn and watching television. Is that true?

A: No comment. After all, I still have to face him at the celestial parties and a pissed off Zeus is not a pretty thing.

KH: I can understand that. So, what type of work are you doing?

A: Well I am the Goddess of Love so I decided to play on my strengths. I took the mortal name of Ariel Schell and moved to Los Angeles. There I opened my own Internet dating service. As you can guess, with me in charge it’s doing EXTREMELY well. J

KH: <laughs> Yes I bet it is. So do you enjoy working?

A: <shrugs> It’s a living. But things recently got really exciting as you documented in my story. I won’t give the details away but it involves a hunky guy, some really hot steamy make-out sessions, and a bit of intrigue too.

KH: That’s true. And without giving anything away I have to say the guy you end up with is a surprise. Completely the opposite of you in every way.

A: <grins> Well they say opposites attract. I guess it’s true.

KH: Before we end this could you tell the readers which god’s story is coming next?

A: Well I believe you got Hera to agree to let you tell her story. And what a story she has to tell after eons of being married to Zeus and suffering through his countless affairs. What did you call her story again?

KH: Heart Of The Queen. Seemed fitting. Her story comes out September of this year. But yours, Working Under Covers has already released.

A: Well, naturally I should be the first. I am the Goddess of Love after all and it is a love story.

KH: Yes too right. Thank you so much for spending some time here. I really appreciate it.

A: Not a problem. Now if you’ll excuse me, I left my guy in bed buck naked and sleeping. Time for me to “get him up” so to speak.

And with a grin Aphrodite vanishes

Thanks for introducing us to Aphrodite, Kat.

BUY
A Taste of Black Ice by Angelika Devlyn

Teaser:Her heart raced, but knowing he was angry she didn’t complain. Nor did she struggle or cry out for him to stop. The book of Protocol and Etiquette said punishments were easier to bear if they were not fought against. Time to test out that theory.
Her belly pressed against his leather-clad thighs and her firm breasts hung, pointing to the floor where her fingertips splayed out in an effort to support herself.
Fingers grasped her panties, yanked them down to her knees and left them there. Cool air wafted around her exposed bottom, now thrust high and vulnerable. Her face reddened at the thought of him inspecting her. So closely. With one hand between her shoulder-blades he held her down. A broad palm rested across both cheeks. His touch made her jump.
‘Hold still,’ he admonished, taking his warm hand away and raising it high above his head. She gritted her teeth and waited for the first spank.
Wow! This is amazing erotic writing, Angelika

Quotes:
Angelika's Black Ice has everything to keep you warm in the most important parts, sexy, daring, I read it in bed and then couldn't get to sleep thinking about it. - Chloe Thurlow (Goodreads)

In Black Ice, Angelika Devlyn has created a great fantasy-erotic novel which is intense, hot, wild and most definitely unputdownable.Highly recommended. - Megan Johns (Goodreads)

This book is not for the faint of heart. It is intense—sometimes violent—and hot as hell. I’m not sure I’ve ever read anything like it before. Ms. Devlyn took me on a wild ride and I’m not sure I’m off of it yet. Hunter’s Review (HEA Reviews)

This book was amazing! I couldn't put it down till I had finished. Let's just say don't read this unless you can find a way to satisfy yourself. This book made me very hot!!!!! If u get my drift:-) Sophie Molan (Goodreads)

I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, and could hardly put it down. The reader is certain to feel liberated with practically every turn of the page, and, like me, will await the sequel with antici…pation.  Pen & Muse Book Reviews

Then there was the sex: EXTREME! Very EXTREME! All in all, I liked the story and could see the possibilities of other storylines arcing away from this one, which I would take the time to dive into.  Bitten by Books

I think the book will be loved by any reader who likes fantasy and science fiction and erotica, because there are plenty of sex scenes to lighten up the darkest hours.  Lucille Robinson (Amazon)

Angelika Devlyn, Fantasy Erotic Writer extraordinaire
Reveals...

From where do you get inspiration and what inspired you to write ?
Inspiration comes to me from anywhere, out of the blue, so I always make sure I have my iPod or a pen & paper by my side to record notes when inspiration strikes. My iPod has a super-duper dictating machine for those moments where pen and paper are inconvenient.

Since an early age I’ve always been fascinated by historical myths, legends, fairy tales and folklore from around the world. The Grimm brothers stories intrigued (and frightened!) me. I couldn’t understand how stories for children could be so horrific! Yet I read them ferociously.  With the Dark Kingdom Chronicles I was able to loosely explore the Greek mythical gods and goddesses and add my own ‘adult’ spin on it. I like to think my love for dark fantasy also shines through, too.

In a couple of sentences, describe the hero’s character.  What do you like best/least about him?
Destaurian Guard Prometheus (Theo for short) starts the book off as a lazy git, bored with his eternal life and being stuck with a “job” he no longer holds enough interest to do correctly. Yet, duty bound he cannot escape the will of the gods, which is what I liked least of him, despite knowing he would have to change in order to be liked as a main character. At least liked enough to make the reader understand why he behaves so wrong at first, so they sympathise with him later.

And the heroine? How do you relate to her?
Human, Ronnie Weaver is a feisty gal, but not all the time, she is human after all. Her whole life changes when Theo snatches her from her world to which she can never return until fully trained. As the story continues Ronnie is supposed to be broken in and trained as though she has no mind of her own. To Destaurians she is nothing but a Child of Destiny. A Plaything with a job to do. But due to circumstances beyond Theo’s control, he is forced to bring her to his world to save her life much earlier than planned. Unfortunately, (for him) this makes a few simple training sessions a much harder process for Theo, and to be honest, he really can’t be bothered at first. It’s just all too much work, and quite frankly Ronnie annoys him. Living forever is not all it’s cracked up to be. And Ronnie certainly adds to his troubles. Big time! But she’s a fighter. In every sense of the word.

Who controls the story – you or your characters?
I do. No doubts there. If they wander off I quickly reign them back in. I like order and (like Theo) can’t be done with characters complicating my life up unnecessarily. *laughs*

What do you hope your readers come away with after reading the book?
Although fictional, I’d like readers to see that I have worked fairly hard to get a lot of the details about the mythology surrounding some of my characters correct-ish. Of course artistic licence does allow me to bend the rules, but out of all the mixed up stories from days of old, the Greeks were the first to try to keep their stories in some sort of order taking their storytelling one step further to the ‘theatre,’ literally making the gods and goddesses early film stars. I like to think I took this train of thought another step further with an erotic, fantasy twist. Hopefully readers will think it’s a fast, fun, and saucy read with lots of angel, demon and witchy action.

Do you have a writing routine?
Yes, 3 hours every morning! Simple but effective.
Anything special you require to keep the creative juices flowing?
Lately I like to light a scented candle and play some wordless music in the background whilst I hand write the second in the Dark Kingdom Chronicles series.

What is the best writing advice you have ever received?
Not to spend too much time trying to gleam all the information off the net and from books about the art of writing and just get on and write. (Totally agree!) Once the story is down, then it’s time to get picky.
In the beginning, I spent far too long reading about writing than actually writing.

What can we look forward to from you in the near future?
Besides working on the whole Dark Kingdom Chronicles series, I’m also writing several short stories, which I will have more news about soon. Hopefully!

How do you like to spend your free time?
Asleep
Reading
Making lists                                                                                Check out Angelika's Press Release
Taking photos
Watching films
Enjoying life with family and friends
Having the odd tipple- purely to oil the chef (Which is probably why I’m no Deliah Smith!)
(LOL Deliah likes her tipple too!)
Spending far too much time on places like Facebook and Twitter!

Do you have any unfulfilled ambitions you wish to accomplish?
To write a blockbuster movie script, would be nice!  But that’s more of a wish than a goal...

What would you most like to accomplish this year?
To get book two to my publisher and complete the outlines for the rest of the series. To also have 3 short stories finished and accepted!

What was your favourite book as a child?
The Very Hungry Caterpillar - He just eats everything in sight. Including the book in places!

What’s the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote, for which I received praise for from someone other than my parents, was about a girl who walked to a dance and bumped into a frog who declared he was really a boy and had been turned into a frog by a wicked witch. The heroine didn’t believe him, so he said he could prove it if she just gave him a kiss. She did, and he turned back into a handsome young boy (a prince no less!) and the wicked witch turned into a chimney pot!
Seems like I had a thing about witches from a very early age...

What is your culinary speciality?
Burning stuff.  I’m no Deliah Smith, that’s for sure! ROFL, Angelika!
(never met anybody who could burn eggs before)

Which flower would best describe you and why?
A sunflower. They’re kind of smiley. I smile a lot, too!

Any exciting plans for the summer?
Well, being here is very exciting for me! Thank you so much for having me here, Megan.
It's my pleasure! I'm thrilled to have you here

by Angelika Devlyn

Blurb:
After a serious car accident Ronnie awakens to find herself restrained, at the mercy of a stranger calling himself her ‘Protector.’  Theo, a Destaurian Guard, is part of an Order dedicated to the protection of the Magic Box of Destiny, a time portal once controlled by an ancient family of witches called the Pandoras.
Ronnie is drawn into Theo’s world, now a Child of Destiny, central to the Destaurians’ plans to thwart mankind’s destruction through the release of the perils of the Box into the world. Theo convinces her she must retrieve the Box before the witches’ power increases.
But the Child of Destiny must also fulfil the Council’s dictate to join with Theo as one, and breed to guarantee the safety of the Goddess within her – Theo’s first love. For years unaware of the protection afforded to her, Ronnie must now help save the world from chaos, and seemingly has no choice, but to obey...
