Marion Webb De Sisto

A Warm Welcome to Maz
Marion Webb-De Sisto was born and grew up in England, but spent many years working and raising her family in the USA. After taking early retirement in 1999, she was finally able to find time to write and began pursuing a life-long dream.

Marion believes her writing career was inspired by her passion for reading from a very early age. She describes herself as a people watcher. The duality that exists within each person fascinates this author. She uses her many years of working and communicating with people as a blueprint for 'fleshing out' her fictional characters.
Marion’s Fantasy novels are filled with demons, angels, shifters and mythical creatures, while her non-fiction books offer information on metaphysical subjects. At present, Marion lives in the Greater London Area of England with her American husband.

Here's the blurb for her latest release               Taken: Tales of Cymllon Series
BUY
A blind date with a guy dressed as an angel is what Esther Nolan's friends give as her thirtieth birthday present. Reluctant to accept, she nevertheless goes to dinner with the pseudo angel, named Zortek, and he's rude, chauvinistic and very odd. The following night he suddenly appears in Esther’s apartment and takes her captive to the magical world of Cymllon. There she learns he's a demgel, someone who is half demon, half angel. Rescued by another demgel, named Dreydon, she spends time with him in his home. Esther quickly develops feelings of attraction toward Dreydon, but tries to ignore them because he isn't human.

Rescuing Esther is a very unusual act for Dreydon. He doesn't normally concern himself with what other demgels are doing. Yet he feels drawn to her. Having her company fills the loneliness in his life. Dreydon discovers and shares with Esther a truth about herself that she finds impossible to believe. He also realizes she is his mate.

Will Zortek want revenge because Dreydon took Esther from him? And will two unalike individuals from different worlds find lasting love?
Before treating us to an excerpt, Maz Reveals:
In a couple of sentences, describe the hero’s character.  What do you like best/least about him?
The hero is a demgel, which means he’s half demon, half angel. He’s basically good, but his demon side sometimes makes him behave in a less than virtuous manner. I always like the naughty-but-nice guys. The least? Well, being half demon he does have horns, claws and fangs. Those definitely don’t impress me.
And the heroine? How do you relate to her?
Physically, I can relate to the heroine because she’s really short and so am I. Emotionally, I think we differ. I couldn’t adjust as quickly and easily as she does to being abducted and taken to another world.

Who controls the story – you or your characters?
Whenever I write Fiction, the characters definitely control the story. Usually, a male character will suddenly ‘appear’ in my mind, followed by a female character and their story. As I write each chapter, I have no idea what the following chapter will contain. I just keep writing and the story unfolds as though it has been given to me at a subconscious level. I think of myself as the ghost writer for the characters. This is very different from how I write Non-Fiction, which involves a detailed plan-of-action being addressed before I begin to write the manuscript.
What do you think are the main ingredients for a successful book?
A successful book should be written in a modern-day style. By that I mean grammar is very important, but it shouldn’t constrict the storyline. Also, a range of vocabulary enhances a tale, but too many unfamiliar words will turn away the reader. I think there are also a couple of other important aspects. A story should take readers completely away from their personal lives for a few hours and/or be one to which they can easily relate.

What do you most enjoy about writing romance?

I’m Libra and that astrological sign is ruled by Venus, the goddess of love, so need I say more? I love a romantic tale and probably write Romance to satisfy myself, as well as my readers. I’m also fascinated by any Fantasy/Paranormal stories and enjoy writing in that genre rather than featuring a contemporary or historical setting.

Do you have a writing routine?

I try to write in the morning and early afternoon. However, I’ve found writing very late at night also works well. Being retired and having an empty nest gives me plenty of free time. When I have a work-in-progress, I aim to write every day, although some weekends can prove difficult.

What can we look forward to from you in the near future?

I recently submitted another Tales of Cymllon Series manuscript to my publisher. If that one is accepted, it will be released at some point in 2013. Each one in the series is a standalone story set in the magical world of Cymllon. It’s entitled Welcome to Danjal’s and details how a fallen angel, the hero, and a waitress, the heroine, meet. She looks human, but is actually a humangel, meaning she’s part human, part angel. In the beginning, they dislike each other intensely, but circumstances that are instigated by demons throw them together and their attitudes toward each other begin to change.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I love to garden, collect crystals and watch movies at night. Due to an illness some fourteen years ago, I’m not as mobile as I used to be. I no longer walk for miles or pirouette everywhere. J

What was your favourite book as a child/teen/adult? Are you currently reading anything?

BUY
My favourite book as a child was The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley. As a teenager, it was The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy, and a book I thoroughly enjoyed some thirty-five years ago was The Shining by Stephen King. Yes, I do like horror stories. I’m not currently reading anything because I’m busily writing another Tales of Cymllon Series book.

Anything else you would like to add?
I think it’s appropriate during this interview to mention that two short stories written by you and a novella by me are featured in an Adult Only anthology, entitled Writers on the Wrong Side of the Road. This book was published at the end of 2011 and is filled with some fascinating, speculative fiction. It will keep you turning the pages when you’re relaxing in an armchair by a warm fire.

Now a Taste of  Taken:

The bedroom door was suddenly pushed open and Dreydon stood there looking at her. He moved into the room without having to bend because the doorway was sufficiently high for his height. She’d noticed the front entrance also offered the same advantage. It was obvious the cabin was built specifically for him.

“Why are you rubbing your neck? Did Zortek hurt you there?”

“No, I’ve got the beginnings of a headache. It’s either from tension or from the sun beating down on me.”

“I will heal that for you.” He approached the bed and placed his left hand a few inches above her head.

Esther could feel a warm flow of energy passing through her from head to toe. The headache was gone.

“Thank you. That worked faster than an aspirin. Oh, do you know what that is?”

“No.”

“It’s a pill. You know, a little round thing you swallow when you have pain anywhere in your body. It used to be made from willow bark, but now they use coal tar.”

“The willow tree is a good friend. Shall I also heal the redness on your nose and cheeks?”

“That would be great, it’s sunburn. It does hurt and will blister. Then I’ll look like a total mess.”

He passed his left hand in front of her face and the tight soreness vanished.

“Are all demgels healers?”

“No, it’s only those whose angelic lineage gives them that ability.”

“And yours does.” She looked at the exposed section of his chest, which the unbuttoned shirt revealed. The gashes were definitely healing.

“Why don’t you wave your hand in front of your chest to instantly heal those wounds?”

“My healing power does not work as quickly on myself.”

And when did he put on a shirt? She knew he wasn’t wearing one when he’d gone out earlier. The thought of him coming into the bedroom, while she was asleep, and getting the shirt from the chest of drawers made her feel uneasy.

“Did you just come back or have you been here for a while?”

“I came back earlier and saw you were sleeping so I stayed outside and waited for Toldo to return after killing and eating his supper. Why do you ask?”

“I don’t like the thought of someone I don’t know sneaking around when I’m asleep.”

“I’m not sure I know what you mean.”

Esther shrugged. “Don’t worry about it.” She moved to the edge of the bed, bent down and put on her sneakers. Dreydon stood watching her. Would he ever stop doing that? She got up and was quickly reminded how short she was compared to him. If he wanted to attack her, she wouldn’t stand a chance against him, but she would knee him very hard in a certain body part. Of course, she was presuming his demgel anatomy was similar to that of a human male.

Now, he was smirking at her. Once again, Esther wondered if he could understand her thoughts. She needed to know if this was possible.

“Do you know what I’m thinking?”

“I can look into your mind when I want to do so.”

“That’s a real violation of privacy. Don’t do it again.”

“I rarely do it, but your thoughts are amusing. You chatter constantly to yourself.”

Esther walked away from him and entered the large room. There was a glowing ball of golden light floating close to the ceiling. It illuminated the whole area. So what to do now? She wondered if she could persuade him to take her outside. Esther was certain it was getting dark out there and if she could get away from him, hiding would be easy. Even if she couldn’t find a place to hide, she wouldn’t regret trying to run away providing he didn’t aim fire at her.

Dreydon took hold of her arm and pulled her to the armchair, which was now in front of the fireplace. He gave her a slight push and she fell back into it. Then he picked up one of the chairs near the table and carried it as if there was no weight involved. He placed it a couple of feet away from the armchair and facing Esther. After sitting down, he leaned forwards and said,

“You have to stop thinking about escaping. At night there are creatures on Cymllon that could easily catch you, kill you, and then eat you. By day, there are other dangerous animals and also demgels who would be very happy to take you to their mejin. I understand why you do not want to be here, but the alternative is worse.”

  4. Is THE TAKEN in any way related to your novella in WotWSotR? Enjoyed the book overall & took quite a shine to your novella.

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed the anthology and my novella. It was my first attempt at writing an erotic story. No, 'Taken' and the novella are not related other than in the fact the heroes are not human and both stories are naughty-but-nice, if you know what I mean? ;-)
