Megan's 5 star rated Contemporary Romance

Barb Han

A Warm Welcome to Barbara
Barb Han lives in North Texas with her husband, has three beautiful children, a spunky Golden Retriever/Standard Poodle mix, and too many books to count.
When she’s not writing, researching, or otherwise getting lost in a story, she volunteers at her children’s school, is in the kitchen ‘creating’ dinner, or can be found on or around a basketball court.

Writing contemporary romance and romantic suspense has been a dream come true for Barb—something she’s wanted to do for as long as she can remember. She left her corporate job, at her husband’s urging, and has been happily playing with her imaginary friends ever since.
In her down time, she plays video games and loves reading with her children. She also enjoys traveling with her family. Many of the places she visits end up in her books.
SEDUCING AVERY  By  Barb Han
BLURB:   Avery McAdams believes in order to truly be herself she needs to keep her head down, her guard up and her focus on her career. Until she’s hired by sexy, charismatic Ryker Li to pull off the event of the century, and he shows up personally to convince her to handle his next party. When she meets him face-to-face, she realizes a piece of her wants him to see her as attractive, which goes against everything she’s convinced herself she believes.
Rich, powerful Ryker has made an art form of getting what he wants, when he wants it, and then moving on. But something about Avery makes him want to stick around.

When he finds everything he never dreamed to look for in a woman, can the billionaire playboy commit to the biggest deal of all? Or will a lifetime of mistrust and suspicion turn them forever into rivals?

Before treating us to an excerpt, Barb Reveals

What do you hope your readers come away with after reading your books?
I hope readers will relate to Avery and Ryker in a realistic way. His demons have created his drive to become successful, which has also alienated him in many ways. She has to accept that her kind of beauty is just as good, if not better, than the cosmetic surgery/air brushed ideals of women. I think we all deal with some version of this in our everyday life, don't you?
What do you think are the main ingredients for a successful book?
Characters we want to root for, and very real, deep-seated conflict.

What do you most enjoy about writing romance?
Love is the most powerful force in the universe. The absence and depravation of love in childhood can create monsters. Love redeems. Love heals. Love gives purpose. What better way to spend your day than writing about that?
What do you like best and least about writing?
I love everything about writing, even on the days I want to pull my hair out. Developing characters I want to spend time with, seeing what makes them tick and why they can’t be together is fascinating to me.
Letting go is excruciating. There's a point when you've made the story the best it can be and you have to trust it's done and let it go. Otherwise, you can literally tweak it forever.

Have you ever suffered from writer’s block? What would be your tips to overcome it?
When scenes become difficult to write or move beyond, there’s generally a good reason. Something in the plot isn’t working. This is my signal I’ve gone down the wrong path and need to rethink why I’m there. If the scene is still important, I might make a quick note like: write a restaurant scene here, and then I move on. What helps me the most is giving myself permission to write a bad first draft. Stories come alive in editing and you can’t fix what isn’t on the page. Daily page count goals help.
Do you have a writing routine?
I write every day. When my children are in school, I get to work ‘normal’ hours. During summer, I write for an hour, play for a while. Then, repeat.

How do you like to spend your free time?
What is this thing you call ‘free time’? *grins* Every second away from the computer, I like to spend with my family. We play video games, basketball, and cook. There’s lots of fun going on in the kitchen around here...and sometimes it tastes good too.
What would you most like to accomplish this year?
There are so many great things in the work for my career and I always enjoy spending time with my family. Outside of those priorities, I’d really like to exercise more. And sleep. Definitely more sleep.

Now A Taste of Barbara:
Avery figured one word from Ryker was all it usually took to get heads nodding and feet scrambling. And yet, there she stood, watching him as though he were about to make out with her family's silver.

His lips curled into that arrogant but devastating trademark smile. "Let me know when you're ready to play anything besides this cat and mouse game. You can start by telling me who you really are."

"My family name? Well that's none of your business. Or anyone else's for that matter." She heard her own voice rise and quiver toward the end of her sentence defensively. She took a lot of pride in her accomplishments, especially because she hadn't used her family name to get them. She'd worked for them. Hard. And no one had the right to dig into her past or question her history.

"Covering tracks are you?" he asked. "The hallmark of a good thief."

She froze as his gaze landed hard on hers. He was trying to rattle her. Fine. She'd be damned if she'd bite. Instead, she leaned back and folded her arms. "You had me investigated. Why don't you tell me who I am?"

Cold, calculating anger scored his brown eyes. "As a general rule I like to know who I'm doing business with beforehand. The only reason for the investigation." Ryker's gaze narrowed to slits. "What I'd like to know is why you're so determined to refuse my job?"

  6. Hey, Barb. A little late stopping by. I laughed at the "free time" question. You're a mom. I think the definition doesn't include the phrase.:) Congrats on doing so well with your writing. I haven't read Seducing Avery, but Gone is very good. Check it out folks.
